The PIH Vision: Whatever It Takes 8 min Video of PIH Partners In Health (PIH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with a presence in Latin America, the Caribbean, Russia, and the United States. They coordinate innovative programs to combat AIDS and women's health problems in rural Haiti and urban Massachusetts, groundbreaking tuberculosis treatment projects in the prisons of Siberia and the shantytowns of Lima, and health policy initiatives on a global scale.
Paul Farmer, one of the Founder of PIH, is a physician and anthropologist who believes that poor people deserve the same high-quality medical care available to so many of us in the U.S. He is delivering on that belief in Haiti, Peru, Russia, and elsewhere. In Haiti, Partners In Health’s sister organization, Zanmi Lasante, provides excellent health care in six rural clinics, reaching patients in remote rural areas through its network of over 1000 community health workers who make daily visits to patient’s homes. Dr. Farmer also makes house calls, sometimes walking for half a day to villages accessible only by foot. Often his patients need more than medicines and procedures, and he arranges for those needs to be met as well. In addition to health care, PIH addresses the underlying causes of disease by drilling wells to supply clean drinking water; building sturdy, rain-resistant houses; and providing education for children who would otherwise go unschooled. In partnership with a local microfinance organization, PIH is now also helping Haitians start small businesses with micro-enterprise lending and training programs. In addition to Haiti, Partners In Health also has programs to treat antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis in Peru and in Siberia’s prisons, where the disease is an epidemic.
This year millions of people will die of treatable diseases in resource-poor countries. Partners In Health provides drugs to the poorest people, builds clinic and houses, trains physicians, nurses and health workers and brings hope.

Nashoba Learning Group: Providing help for children with autism and hope for their families.
Nashoba Learning Group (NLG) is a non-profit educational organization committed to helping children and their families in the fight against autism. The school, which opened in January 2003, provides state-of-the-art education and intervention services to children with autism. Nashoba Learning Group welcomes individuals with autism, between the ages of 3 and 22, of any race, color, religious affiliation or national or ethnic origin.
Liz Martineau, Founder of NLG, launched in January 2003 a major initiative in her commitment to help people with autism: supported by some similarly motivated colleagues and parents, opened a non-profit (501 c 3 status) school, Nashoba Learning Group (NLG). NLG's mission is to create the best available educational program for people with autism using proven educational methods -- one-on-one teaching using Applied Behavioral Analysis -- to help children with autism reach their full potential and to participate as fully as possible in family and community activities throughout their lives. NLG has grown from 2 students to 21 in just over a year, and will reach capacity in its current location this fall, when enrollment reaches 30 students. NLG currently has over 40 other children on a waiting list. NLG is simultaneously looking to expand the existing program, as well as to develop new programs, such as vocational training and supported employment opportunities. Autism is the most common of the Pervasive Developmental Disorders, affecting an estimated 1 in 166 births. Roughly translated, this means as many as 1.5 million Americans today are believed to have some form of autism

Make a $20 donation and get a chance to win one of Patrick’s bikes (value: $1,500):
To boost the fundraising part of the project, I have decided to give away one of the 2 bikes that I will be using during the Race Across AMerica. This Decathlon bike is only 2 years old, in very good condition, and has a value of $1,500. In order to get a chance to win this bike, you’ll have to make a $20 donation to either Partners In Health or Nashoba Learning Group. But wait Patrick; what if I’m a 10 years old girl, I can’t possibly use your bike, right? OK, so below are the “options”:
a. You want to keep it because the size is just right for you, or you want to make a gift to a friend. I’ll take care of the shipping. b. You don’t want to keep it, for whatever reasons. I’ll take care of selling it and you’ll receive at least $1,000.
Raffle information: • $20 donation minimum to get 1 chance to win. Of course, $100 donation will give you 5 chances to win. • You can donate to PIH and/or NLG. • The deadline will be June 30th, 2007. • The winner’s name will be drawn during the fall. • There is a minimum of 250 $20 donations for the raffle to take place.
So now please donate below, because the money will go the charities and not in my pocket. |

It could be your future bike! |
